Franz Josef von Gondola OSB (born December 16, 1711 in Vienna ; † March 5, 1774 there ) was a Benedictine and auxiliary bishop in Paderborn and Münster.

Life

Josef Franz, Imperial Count of Gondola, was educated at the Ettal Knight Academy , then entered the Ettal Benedictine Abbey , where he was given the religious name Franziscus. He made his profession in 1730 and was ordained a priest in 1734. He then taught at the Knight Academy. After the Ettal monastery fire in 1744, he was sent on a collective trip to the Rhineland, where the Archbishop of Cologne, Archbishop Clemens August von Bayern, designated him as his suffragan for Paderborn in 1751 and personally consecrated him as Bishop of Tempe on July 2, 1752 . In addition to the diocese of Paderborn , Count Gondola was also active as auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Münster from 1756 to 1759 and in 1761 took over the Apostolic Vicariate of the North .

After disagreements with the new Bishop Wilhelm Anton von der Asseburg , Count Gondola left the Diocese of Paderborn for Vienna in 1763 and resigned as auxiliary bishop. He received a canonical to St. Stephan and the parish of Probstdorf , where he died on March 5, 1774.
