Franz Joseph Adolph Schneidawind (born August 25, 1799 in Bamberg , † July 26, 1857 in Marienbad ) was a German historian .

Life

Schneidawind, son of the statistician and state board member of the same name, studied medicine and history, but only graduated with a doctorate in history. In 1827 he became professor of history at the Royal Lyceum in Aschaffenburg . He died in the spa town of Marienbad in 1857, where he sought relief from a heart condition.

In numerous historical treatises, Schneidawind dealt with the French Revolution and its proponents as well as the general Archduke Karl of Austria and the Napoleonic Wars .

He also created a work on the Seven Years' War and a biography of Prince Wilhelm of Prussia , which makes him one of the pioneers of national historiography.
