Franz Křepek

Franz Křepek (born January 15, 1855 in Nieder Nösel , Bohemia ; † April 28, 1936 near Röhrsdorf , Bohemia) was a German farmer and politician in the Austrian Habsburg Monarchy and the first Czechoslovak Republic.

Political career

Křepek was an agricultural representative on the Austrian Imperial Council in Vienna between 1885 and 1897 and a member of the Bohemian Landtag as a parliamentarian from 1886 to 1899 .

In 1886 Křepek founded the Central Agricultural Association in Prague. In 1905 he was one of the founders of the German Agricultural Party and was its managing director. In the course of the collapse of the Habsburg Monarchy in autumn 1918, he became a member of the Federation of Farmers , whose regional association in Bohemia he headed from 1919 to 1925 as chairman.

From 1920 to 1925 Křepek was a member of the parliament of the Czechoslovak Republic in Prague, from 1925 to 1929 he was a senator .

Křepek was a proponent of an activist course that should help reduce national conflicts between Germans and Czechs in the territory of Czechoslovakia. Křepek was involved in the formation of a Czech-German government under Prime Minister Antonín Švehla (Czechoslovak Agrarian) in 1926. This government included the German ministers Robert Mayr-Harting (Christian Social) as Minister of Justice and Franz Spina (Federation of Farmers) as Minister for Public Works.

From 1933 to 1936 Křepek was mayor of Leitmeritz . He was shot dead under unexplained circumstances while hunting near the Mühlstein castle ruins .
