Franz Kallenbach
Franz Joseph Kallenbach (born August 21, 1893 , † September 12, 1944 in Darmstadt ) was a German mycologist . His botanical-mycological author's abbreviation is “ Kallenb. ".
Kallenbach studied education at the Ernst Ludwig Seminar in Bensheim and then worked as a teacher in Darmstadt.
In addition to his profession Kallenbach was a prolific mycologist, which among other things, with the problem of fungal damage buildings fungi such as the dry rot employed. His main area of research was the Dickröhrlingsverwandte (Röhrlinge), about which he published a monograph which is still used today and which was provided with lifelike drawings by his wife Maria Kallenbach. The monograph appeared in the series Die Pilze Mitteleuropas , whose founder and editor was Kallenbach.
Kallenbach also worked as an employee of the German Society for Mushroom Science. He was also director of the Hessian state office for mushroom and dry rot advice and the mycological institute of the German Society for Mushroom Science.
Kallenbach and his wife were killed in the air raid on Darmstadt .
