Franz Lankes (born August 23, 1968 ) is a German biathlon trainer , ski technician , support runner in disabled sports and a former biathlete .

Franz Lankes started biathlon in 1983. As an active biathlete, he was part of the German national team, but did not achieve any notable success. He started in the Alpine Cup as well as in the Bavarian and German Biathlon Championships. After his active career he became a student biathlon trainer in Chiemgau . After seven years, he went to the Swedish national biathlon team as a ski technician and looked after Magdalena Forsberg, among others . Lankes then became a ski technician for the German national team for disabled people, Nordic skiing. He was also a companion runner for cross-country skier and biathlete Verena Bentele , whom he accompanied at the Winter Paralympics in 2002 and 2006 , among others . With her he won six gold and one bronze medal. Before the 2006 Paralympics, she lived with Lankes and his family. With Wilhelm Brem he won the 2002 Paralympic bronze on the 10 km cross-country ski run in Salt Lake City .

For winning the gold medals in 2002, he received the silver laurel leaf from Federal President Johannes Rau on May 8, 2002 .
