Franz Lenhart

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Franz Lenhart (also Franz J. Lenhart , actually Franz Seraf Josef Lenhart ; born January 7, 1898 in Bad Häring , † March 27, 1992 in Meran ) was an Austrian-Italian commercial artist and painter.

Life

Lenhart came from Kufstein, studied in Vienna and Florence and settled in Merano as a young graphic artist in 1922. In 1924 he achieved a decisive breakthrough with the poster “Visitate le Dolomiti” ( Visit the Dolomites ) for the Italian state tourism office Enit.

In 1927 Franz Lenhart married Bianca Pavinato

By 1930 Lenhart had found his own style, which showed dynamic skiers or elegant women with an erotic charisma against the backdrop of the alpine landscape. On Lenhart's posters, South Tyrol was no longer shown as a mountain farming country, but presented as a sophisticated leisure paradise. Lenhart also painted posters for large shipping companies and traveled to Yugoslavia, Greece, Turkey, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt and the Far East, where he carried out portraits. 1950 followed a stay in North and South America, where further works were created. In 1962 Lenhart began painting the murals in the 'Wandelhalle' on the winter promenade in Merano. In 1988 and 1989 the last two major solo exhibitions took place in Merano and Bolzano.

The Lenhart collection is now kept by the Touriseum , the South Tyrolean State Museum for Tourism History.
