Franz Lippold

Franz Lippold (* 1688 in Hamburg , baptized on November 28 , † July 27, 1768 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German portrait painter.

Lippold was a student of Balthasar Denner in Hamburg and worked at various royal courts of his time. He then settled in Frankfurt, where he had civil rights since 1723. His portraits were valued, he was considered the best portrait painter of his time in the Frankfurt area. He painted, among others, Emperor Karl VII , Empress Maria Theresa and Emperor Franz I.

His portraits were characterized by a good resemblance to those portrayed and a cheerful color scheme. Particularly the beautiful hand representations and the careful treatment of the fabrics were praised. Pictures of him can be found in the following museums: Augsburg, Bamberg, Bruchsal Castle , Darmstadt, Frankfurt (city library), Koblenz, Würzburg Residence and in private ownership. Another work adorns the high altar of the Church of the Most Holy Trinity in Gaibach, Lower Franconia.
