Franz Mach (born October 26, 1845 in German Horschowitz near Jechnitz , † February 21, 1917 in Tetschen ) was a Bohemian-Austrian writer and synodal councilor of the Old Catholic Church in Austria .

Life

Mach was born in Deutsch Horschowitz in 1845 as the son of the landlord Josef Mach and his wife Franziska geb. Captain born. From 1851 to 1857 he attended elementary school in Golleschau and Dekau. After two years of schooling at a Piarist school in Prague , he was allowed to attend the grammar school in Saaz . On June 26, 1866, he passed the Matura examination with distinction. At his father's request, he studied Catholic theology at Charles University in Prague and was ordained a priest on July 23, 1870 in Leitmeritz.

In Komotau he took over the pastoral work as a chaplain, but in 1873 he turned to the teaching profession. After passing the proficiency test for teaching, Mach began his first apprenticeship. In Saaz he taught the Catholic religion at the local grammar school and held the title of kk grammar school professor. In the period that followed he wrote a number of writings and books on religion, dogmatics and liturgy. He also published several school books for religion. After health problems he went into permanent retirement in 1899.

As a result of his years of research into his later book The Religious and World Problem , he had also dealt with the Old Catholic and Protestant Churches. Encouraged by the growing supporters of the Los von Rom movement in Bohemia , Mach converted to the German Old Catholic Church on April 25, 1901 and settled in a small house in Tetschen. In the same year he published his main work. At the 1902 in Warnsdorf held XXI. Synod of the Old Catholic Church, he was appointed Synodal Council. In 1904 he was appointed deputy chairman of the church authority. His grave is in the Olšany cemetery.
