Franz Molitor (painter)

Franz Molitor (born August 17, 1857 in Capellen near Koblenz , † July 19, 1929 in Ehrenbreitstein ) was a German painter.

Molitor was the son of the painter Peter Joseph Molitor (1821–1898). He studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Wilhelm von Schadow , Karl Ferdinand Sohn , Johann Peter Theodor Janssen , Julius Roeting and Eduard von Gebhardt . Molitor initially worked in Düsseldorf, from 1898 to the turn of the year 1927/28 in Oberlahnstein . He painted portraits , still lifes , genre and altar paintings. A portrait that he made of his father was in a collection in Koblenz. He also illustrated the volumes of the annals of the Society for Nassau Antiquity and Historical Research .
