Peter Franz Neelmeyer (* 4. August 1868 in Bremen , † 7. October 1941 ) was a German banker and owner of Bremer Bank's Neelmeyer & Co .

biography

Neelmeyer was the son of the Bremen shipbroker Carl Ludwig Neelmeyer and his wife Catharina, daughter of the master blacksmith Peter Müller from Vegesack . He attended the commercial school in Bremen and completed a commercial apprenticeship. After secondary school, he became an apprentice at a shipping company named Garrels, later at Contor Roesingh & Mummy.

He then voluntarily completed his military service in the 6th Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 95. In the securities brokerage company JH Rowohlt, Ernst Rowohlt's father , he then found his field of activity ( securities and funds ), and received power of attorney there in 1890 at the age of 20 .

Bank founder

In 1907 he founded his own company at Obernstrasse 10, which initially acted as a brokerage company. Initially, stock market transactions were made; later arbitrary deals were added. In 1923, in connection with the Oldenburgische Spar- und Leihbank, the Bank P. Franz Neelmeyer & Co. was established as a limited partnership with the partners Heinrich Landwehr and Hermann Leverenz. The headquarters of the company was now on the Bremen market square (Am Markt 14) in a house that still belonged to the Sparkasse Bremen . In 1924 the bank was located at Buchtstrasse 67/68 (corner of Sandstrasse). The business volume expanded significantly. In 1927 the building at Am Markt 14 was bought. The young bank was able to overcome the global economic crisis of 1929. In 1938, 13 new limited partners were accepted into the banking company.

Further bank development

After the death of the bank's founder and the destruction of the bank building in 1944, a new building was erected in 1953/54 at Markt 14 to 16, which is now a listed building. The bank became a public limited company in 1964 with large shares of the Sparkasse, which were transferred to Bayerische Hypotheken- und Wechselbank in the 1980s. In 1996, Vereins- und Westbank AG in Hamburg became the sole shareholder, which later became part of Bayerische Hypo- und Vereinsbank AG .
