Franz Pomassl

Franz Pomassl is an Austrian sound artist , musician , DJ and label owner . His works can be classified as electronic music .

Life

Franz Pomassl studied painting with Arnulf Rainer at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1989 to 1991 and from 1991 to 1992 also at the academy the technical basics of painting with Franz Graf . From 1991 he also studied electro-acoustic and experimental music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna . In 1995 he studied new media at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and in 1996 at the Tokyo Zokei University.

From 1992 Pomassl presented his first exhibitions and intermedia projects, including Silicon Planet and Time Based Bar (1992), Wiener Heute (1993), Monitor 93 (1993) and Simulationsroom-Mosaic Soundscape (1993).

As a musician, he experiments with the limits of auditory perception by exceeding the parameters of musical instruments and exploring the barriers of acoustic reception. Pomassl also develops electroacoustic devices and processes with which he particularly addresses the spatial and physical perceptions of the recipients. Among other things, it uses infrasonic frequencies that are inaudible to humans, but which can be perceived by the surface of the skin and the internal organs.

In 1996, Craft Records released his first album, Skeleton 1, as Pomassl . The second part, Skeleton 2 , was released in 1997. After a research stay at the earthquake simulation center in Tokyo, the album Trail Error was created . The album Architectronics was created in 1999 from the collaboration with Kodwo Eshun . Live he presented his work as a DJ and live act, including Europe, North America and Japan.

Pomassl lives and works in Jaidhof and Vienna .
