Franz Rieger (organ builder)
Franz Rieger (born October 13, 1812 in Zossen ; † January 29, 1885 in Jägerndorf ) was a master organ builder and the founder of the organ building company Franz Rieger & Söhne, Jägerndorf .
biography
Franz Rieger set up an organ building workshop in Jägerndorf (Krnov) in 1844 after returning from Vienna as a qualified master after completing his apprenticeship with Franz Seybert. Franz Rieger built his first organ for the castle church in Jägerndorf in 1845, equipped with 20 stops , two manuals and a pedal .
In 1852 his company was entered in the trade and business address book of the Austrian monarchy. In 1872 he passed it on to his sons Otto Anton Rieger (1847–1903) and Gustav Rieger (1848–1905). He continued to work as a consultant in the company until 1880.
Franz Rieger was married to Rosalia geb. Schmidt, with whom he had nine children. In 1885 he died at his place of residence and work.
