Franz Schneiderhan

Franz Schneiderhan (born October 9, 1863 in Meidling ; † probably had an accident on September 20, 1938 near the Wüstelau inn, Kaprun municipality ) was an Austrian cultural functionary.

Life

Schneiderhan was born as the son of a master baker, mayor of Untermeidling and city councilor of Vienna Josef Schneiderhan (1837-1918). He was the great-uncle of the violin virtuosos Walter and Wolfgang Schneiderhan .

From 1882 to 1885 he studied at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna . During his studies in 1882 he became a member of the Arminia Vienna fraternity . From 1885 to 1886 he studied economics and philosophy at the Sorbonne in Paris and at the Collège de France . Then he took singing lessons in Vienna, among others with Josef Gänsbacher . In 1886 he worked in the P. Ladstätter & Sons hat factory , of which he became a partner in 1891. In 1892 he married Amalie Ladstätter.

Schneiderhan was general director of the Austrian State Theater from 1926 to 1933 . From 1935 to 1938 he was President of the International Mozarteum Foundation. From 1935 to 1936 he was President of the Rotary Club Salzburg.
