Franz Schrader (priest)

Franz Schrader (born December 13, 1919 in Holzhausen , Free State of Waldeck-Pyrmont ; † October 23, 2007 ) was a Roman Catholic priest , church historian and head of the diocese archive in Magdeburg.

Life

Franz Schrader graduated from high school in Brilon in 1938 and then studied philosophy and Catholic theology in Paderborn and Münster . He became a medical soldier in World War II.

In 1947 Franz Schrader was ordained a priest in Paderborn (?) And then vicar in Quedlinburg , in the eastern part of the Archdiocese of Paderborn. Further stations were Magdeburg-Sudenburg , Egeln and Osterhausen before he became parish vicar in Sittichenbach in 1959 . In 1964 he obtained his doctorate theologiae . In the 1970s he was a Catholic pastor in Hadmersleben and also worked at the ecclesiastical court.

In 1978 Franz Schrader became head of the archives of the Episcopal Office in Magdeburg and head of the church history research center. In 1982 he was also appointed ecumenical officer of the episcopal office. In 1983, Bishop Braun appointed him Chancellor of the Curia.

In 1985 Schrader gave up the management of the archive and moved to Paderborn in 1993.

Franz Schrader published numerous books and articles on ecclesiastical history and other ecclesiastical topics. The focus of his meritorious research was the church history of the Archdiocese of Magdeburg and the Diocese of Halberstadt.
