Franz Schwarz (singer)
Franz Schwarz , pseudonym Frank Schwartz (born June 11, 1858 in Brno , Moravia ; died March 10, 1919 in Magdeburg ) was an Austrian opera singer ( baritone ).
Life
He received his training at the Conservatory of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna from Viktor von Rokitansky and later in Italy. In 1880 he made his debut at the Komische Oper in Vienna. After several engagements in the years from 1886 to 1896, he became a member of the Weimar Court Theater and was there from 1896 to 1899 as a chamber singer .
After a stay in North America as an opera and concert singer, he sang all the great Wagner roles in his field at the Hamburg City Theater from 1899 to 1904 under the direction of Gustav Mahler . The years 1908 to 1910 took him to the Dresden Court Opera . In Germany he was appointed chamber singer.
His sister was Louise Wolff, wife of Hermann Wolff, the impresario and artistic director of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
