Franz Seidel (born May 1, 1818 in Munich ; † June 14, 1903 ibid) was a German landscape painter and a brother of the painter August Seidel (1820–1904).

After graduating from high school in 1836, Seidel first studied law at the (today's) Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich , dropped out and studied from May 18, 1841 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich as well as privately with Carl Rottmann . After graduating, he worked as a landscape painter and writer in Munich.

In 1871 he visited Paris with his brother August . In contrast to his brother August, Franz Seidel only created relatively few paintings. Around 1875 he became mentally ill, resigned his membership in the art association and artists' cooperative and died after a long mental illness in Munich's Nikolaispital. His brother was later buried in his grave in Munich's Ostfriedhof (grave 44-2-25).
