Franz Stämpfli

Franz Stämpfli (born December 31, 1881 in Schwarzenburg BE ; † June 14, 1958 in Unterseen ; legal resident in Moosseedorf ) was a Swiss lawyer and from 1916 to 1948 Swiss federal prosecutor .

Life

Stämpfli was the son of the advocate and Grand Councilor Albert Stämpfli and Rosa Stämpfli nee. Men's. After high school in Bern he was a law student in Bern and Leipzig . After working as an advocate, from 1906 he was clerk at the higher court in Bern, in 1909 deputy public prosecutor for the canton of Bern and in 1911 clerk at the higher court. From 1916 to 1948 he was a Swiss federal prosecutor, i.e. head of the federal prosecutor's office. As a member of the Liberal Democratic Party , he was also involved in numerous state protection edicts in the interwar period, such as the Democracy Protection Ordinance of 1938. In 1935, in response to the Jacob affair, the Federal Police was created under his leadership.

Stämpfli had been married to Rosalie Schweizer since 1914.
