Appreciation

At the beginning of his artistic career, Stockinger created caricatures and woodcuts. His first metalwork was expressionist with a tendency towards archaic subjects. For his mostly abstract figures, he used a wide range of different materials and preferred rough surfaces. Certain twisted forms tried to express tension and pain. From the 1970s onwards, Stockinger changed his working methods, he preferred marble, granite and other stone for his sculptures and was guided by the deformation of the material in his artistic expression.

Movie

Frederico Mendina made the documentary Xico Stockinger about the artist. The film began in 2006 and accompanied Stockinger through the last years of his life. It was completed in 2012.
