Franz Taut

Franz Taut ( pseudonym for Franz Otto Karl Paul Jacob Freiherr von Tautphoeus , born May 6, 1908 in Munich , † March 14, 1985 in Bad Tölz ) was a German writer .

Life

Franz Taut came from an aristocratic family, his father was the officer Otto Max Joseph Fritz Jacob Freiherr von Tautphoeus, his mother Rita nee Freiin von Gersonn zu Ghersburg. Franz Taut grew up in Munich. After graduating from high school , he joined the Reichswehr , from which he left in 1928. Then he went to South America . He spent the following years in Venezuela , Colombia and the West Indies , where he worked as a farm overseer. After 1933 he returned to Germany and worked as a journalist for newspapers such as the Berliner Tageblatt and the Berliner Lokal-Anzeiger . Since 1935 he has also published successful adventure novels in which he processed his experiences in Latin America .

In August 1939 Franz Taut was drafted into the Wehrmacht , of which he was an officer and war correspondent . Taut took part in the entire Russian campaign and in April 1945 fell into American captivity in the Ruhr Basin . After his release in 1946 he settled as a freelance writer in Wolfratshausen . From 1948 onwards he published novels with exotic themes; from 1958 Taut then mainly served the genre of the war novel.
