Franz "Bubi" Trapphoff (born March 26, 1923 ; † January 7, 2007 ) was a German football player who completed a total of 106 games in the Oberliga West for the clubs Meidericher SV and Hamborn 07 and scored 41 goals.

Career

Trapphoff was one of the first players at Meidericher SV who were back on the pitch for the club after the end of World War II . Due to the difficult overall situation in the heavily destroyed Ruhr area, there was no regular league operation at that time, but only a Duisburg city championship. With his participation, the MSV was able to prevail against the city rivals Duisburg Spielverein and thus win the title. Together with Karl Hetzel and Georg Gawliczek, Trapphoff formed a well-known trio in the storm during this time . In the following years he initially remained part of the team, but moved to Hamborn 07 in the Oberliga West for the 1949/50 season; this represented the highest division in the regionally limited league system until 1963.

The black and yellow finished ninth under coach Paul Zielinski at the end of the lap. "Bubi" Trapphoff had scored eight goals in 29 league appearances. Together with left winger Adolf Kallenborn (30 games - 15 goals) he was a dangerous wing tong in the World Cup system used at the time . In his second Hamborn season, 1950/51 , he was able to expand his personal record to 15 goals in 29 missions and his team took seventh place with the reinforcement in the runner row, Walter Dongmann . Before the season, the "Lions" went to England and played games in Bournemouth, Brighton, Bristol and Swindon. Hamborn 07 was the first Duisburg team to travel to the motherland of football after the Second World War. When the Hamborner in the 1951/52 season were relegated to the 2nd league as 16th, Trapphoff added another 19 league appearances with three hits.

For the season 1952/53 he returned to Meidericher SV, which meanwhile also took part in the Oberliga West . On August 24, 1952, he was called up in a 3: 4 defeat against Fortuna Dusseldorf and made his league debut for Meiderich in the first division. However, he did not take a regular place afterwards. At the end of his first league year Meiderich finished fourth in the table and the returnee had scored two goals in nine missions. In the following season 1953/54 he proved to be a very regular goalscorer, scoring eleven times in 16 games; only Kurt Küppers (12 goals) was more successful within the team . An important player at this time was Karl Hetzel , who had already played at Trapphoff's side in the immediate post-war years and was considered an important offensive force at MSV. During the 1954/55 season, Trapphoff was rarely used (five games - two goals) and at the end of the season also had to accept relegation to the second division with coach Radoslav Momirski , although the distance to the upper half of the table was only a few points with a very even distribution of points amounted to. This also meant the end of his career at Meidericher SV, in the course of which he had contested 30 league games with 15 goals of his own.

He remained connected to the club, later renamed MSV Duisburg, and in the 1960s he was part of the old men’s team with his former companions and in 1986 co-organized a meeting of numerous former players. Trapphoff still lived in old age in the Duisburg district of Meiderich and died in January 2007 of the consequences of a stroke.
