Franz Wenzl Tobisch (born October 26, 1788 in Meseritz near Kaaden in Böhmen , † February 26, 1873 in Teplitz ) was a Catholic clergyman, archdean , canon and episcopal notary.

Life

Tobisch was born in Meseritz near Kaaden as the first son of the farmer Franz Anton Tobisch (* 1756 in Meseritz) and Maria Anna Tschochner (* 1760 in Klein Schönhof). His siblings included the professor of mathematics, physics, history and Latin Johann Karl Tobisch (1793–1855) in Breslau and the senior teacher Vinzenz Eugen Tobisch (1800–1852) in Breslau. The Tobisch family can be traced back to the farmer Martin Tobisch († 1651 in Meseritz) and produced some scholars and influential personalities.

At the request of his parents, Tobisch was supposed to become a teacher, but due to his versatile talent he was sent to the grammar school in Kaaden by the Count von Thun. He then studied philosophy in Prague and completed his theological studies in Leitmeritz , where he was ordained a priest on April 13, 1814. In the same year he became a chaplain in Teplitz and gave the first sermon in the local deanery church. In autumn 1818 he traveled with his pupil Prince Edmund von Clary and Aldringen to Vienna and at the beginning of 1819 to Italy.

In Teplitz he was appointed castle chaplain in 1820 and held this position until his appointment as dean on April 17, 1845. Later he was appointed episcopal notary, consistorial councilor and finally archdechant of Teplitz. By Emperor Franz Joseph I , Tobisch was awarded the golden Cross of Merit with the crown in 1859 for his commitment to church, people and state .

On April 24, 1864 Tobisch celebrated his 50th anniversary as a priest. On the occasion of this event, the city of Teplitz celebrated a festival lasting several days and published a 27-page memorandum on the activities and the festivities. At the same time he was made an honorary citizen of Teplitz by the city council.

Archdechant Tobisch was buried in the local cemetery on March 1, 1873 with great sympathy from the Teplice population. The Teplitz-Schönauer Anzeiger dedicated an eleven-part obituary to him. In his will, he considered some social institutions, including the children's asylum, the Friedrich Wilhelm Hospital, the school fund and the church fund with a sum of 8,000 guilders.
