Vincent Eugen Tobisch

Vinzenz Eugen Tobisch (* July 18, 1800 in Meseritz near Kaaden in Böhmen; † October 28, 1852 in Breslau ) was professor of mathematics , history , German and Latin at the Friedrichsgymnasium in Breslau.

Life

Tobisch was born in Meseritz near Kaaden as the fifth son of the farmer Franz Anton Tobisch (* 1756 in Meseritz) and Maria Anna Tschochner (* 1760 in Klein Schönhof). His siblings include the archdechant, consistorial councilor, Canonicus ad hoc and episcopal notary Franz Wenzl Tobisch (1788–1873) in Teplitz and the royal professor Johann Karl Tobisch (1793–1855) in Breslau . The Tobisch family can be traced back to the farmer Martin Tobisch († 1651 in Meseritz) and produced some scholars and influential personalities.

Vinzenz Eugen Tobisch attended high schools in Kaaden, Kremsier in Moravia and Prague . Until 1820 he studied mathematics and history at the Charles University in Prague. He then followed his brother Johann Karl Tobisch to Silesia, now a professor of mathematics, physics, history and Latin at the Friedrichsgymnasium in Breslau. In 1822 he converted from the Catholic to the Protestant faith and found a job as tutor of the Count von Pfeil auf Wildschütz, but was appointed to Wroclaw on July 20, 1826 as a full teacher of mathematics, history as a major and German and Latin as a minor. In 1842 he was awarded the title of senior teacher . In 1850 he received the professorship. He died on October 28, 1852.
