Johann Karl Tobisch (born October 17, 1793 in Meseritz near Kaaden in Bohemia as Franz Karl Tobisch ; † March 17, 1855 in Breslau ) was professor of mathematics , physics , history and French at the Friedrichsgymnasium in Breslau, mathematician, author of several mathematical writings and Home poet .

Life

Tobisch was born in Meseritz near Kaaden as the third son of the farmer Franz Anton Tobisch (* 1756 in Meseritz) and Maria Anna Tschochner (* 1760 in Klein Schönhof). His siblings include the archdechant, consistorial councilor, Canonicus ad hoc and episcopal notary Franz Wenzl Tobisch (1788–1873) in Teplitz and the senior teacher Vinzenz Eugen Tobisch (1800–1852) in Breslau . The Tobisch family can be traced back to the farmer Martin Tobisch († 1651 in Meseritz) and produced some scholars and influential personalities.

After attending grammar school in Kaaden, he entered the order of the Piarists in 1810 and was mainly concerned with the study of Latin and French and mathematics. He then taught for five years at the grammar schools in Beneschau , Schlan , Leitomischl and Kremsier , most recently at the Neustädter grammar school in Prague . In 1812 he received his doctorate in philosophy at the University of Prague. He began to preach for his order in Prague, but saw his destiny in the teaching office and resigned from the Piarist order.

In 1816 Tobisch hastily left the monastery and fled to neighboring Silesia . There he found a job as a tutor with Count von Pfeil auf Kleutsch. He first came into contact with the evangelical faith through Count von Pfeil. After a short probation period, he passed the teaching examination and was able to work as a senior teacher at the Friedrich Gymnasium in Breslau. As a member of the Kgl. prussia. Pedagogical seminar for learned students, he converted from the Catholic to the Evangelical Reformed faith in 1819. In 1822 he became a full teacher and finally in 1829 Kgl. prussia. Professor of Mathematics, Physics, History and French. During his time at Friedrichs-Gymnasium he published several works and treatises. He has also published several poems and short stories. He died in Breslau in 1855.

Tobisch had been married to Henriette Eleonore Sophie Grunwald, daughter of the Breslau salt tax controller Grunwald, since 1819. Coming from marriage:
