Franz Wilhelm Schweigger-Seidel
Franz Wilhelm Schweigger-Seidel (born October 16, 1795 in Weißenfels as Franz Wilhelm Seidel , † June 5, 1838 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German physician and chemist.
Life
Seidel, son of the teacher Carl August Gottlieb Seidel , took the name Schweigger after the death of his father in autumn 1822 as a tribute to the botanist August Friedrich Schweigger who was murdered in Sicily .
In 1827 he became professor of medicine at the University of Halle .
In 1828 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .
In 1829 he founded the Pharmaceutical Institute in Halle, of which he was also director.
His son was the physician Franz Schweigger-Seidel (born September 24, 1834 in Halle, † August 23, 1871 in Halle).
