Franz Xaver Gmeiner

Franz Xaver Gmeiner (born January 6, 1752 in Studenitz near Windischfeistritz , † March 27, 1828 in Graz ) was an Austrian philosopher , theologian , church historian and canon lawyer .

Life

Gmeiner attended the high school in Maribor , then switched to the high school in Graz . He studied philosophy and theology at the University of Graz and obtained the degree of Dr. phil. His ordination took place in 1774, 1775 Promotion to Dr. theol. After a time as an associate professor , he became a full professor of church history.

Gmeiner was rector of the university in the academic year 1791/1792 , then president of the study conscience for ten years and then director of the philosophical studies from 1802 and 1816. On December 6, 1816, he was appointed imperial council . He then retired in 1822 .

Gmeiner was a follower of Josephinism .

Gmeiner's work Epitome historiae ecclesiasticae NT in usum praelectionum academicarum , published in Graz in 1787, was indexed by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in 1827 .
