Franz Xaver Reichhart

Franz Xaver Reichhart (born January 17, 1851 in Mühlthal in the Upper Palatinate, today in Falkenstein , † 1934 in Munich ) was a Bavarian civil servant executioner . From 1894 to 1924 he worked primarily in the Stadelheim prison in Munich .

Life

Franz Xaver Reichhart was a son of the Wasenmeister Thomas Reichhart and his wife Theresa, nee. Scorer. Before he was hired as an executioner, he was first a news helper (executioner's assistant) and lived in Landshut. From November 26, 1895, Reichhart was then based in Munich. The first marriage was on May 6, 1876 with Maria Kisslinger (born April 24, 1826 in Warth , district of Dingolfing-Landau ), the second marriage on October 13, 1904 with Anna Huber, widowed Eltzinger (born May 26, 1856) closed.

Franz Xaver Reichhart was an uncle of the later executioner Johann Reichhart and was related by marriage to Lorenz Schellerer , also an executioner, who carried out the last execution with the sword in Bavaria. Reichhart was the only executioner in Bavaria with official status. He became known u. a. also by guillotining the legendary robber Kneißl on February 21, 1902, as a "messenger" . This machine was the Baden sword machine made entirely of iron.

Franz Xaver Reichhart worked as an executioner's assistant in 26 executions, and as an executioner he carried out 43 executions.

After his nephew Michael refused to be his successor, Franz Xaver Reichhart trained his second nephew Johann to be an executioner at retirement age, who took over this position on March 27, 1924.

Franz Xaver Reichhart died in 1934 at the age of 83. He had previously bequeathed his fortune to the Church.

A marble tablet in the Ölberg chapel near Falkenstein reports that “the Kgl. Messageer Franz Xaver Reichhart “built this chapel in 1913 after having had to promote numerous death row inmates into eternity in 40 years of service.
