Franz Xaver von Hofstetten (* 1811 in Munich ; † November 16, 1883 in Waidhaus ) was a German landscape painter .

Life

Franz Xaver von Hofstetten studied at the University of Munich and became a member of the Corps Isaria in 1829 . As early as 1830 he exhibited a cycle of seven landscapes in the Munich Art Association . After completing his studies, he began a civil service career with the government of the Isarkkreis as a construction trainee, but decided in 1833 to devote himself entirely to painting. He found the motifs of his landscape paintings mainly in the mountainous landscapes of southern Bavaria and Austria, which he preferred to paint in summer and autumn, sometimes in spring, but rarely in winter.
