Franz von Dumstorp

Franz von Dumstorp (* around 1485 ; † June 11, 1583 in Bremen ) was a Commander in the Commandery of the Teutonic Order in Bremen .

biography

Franz von Dumstorp came from Osnabrück . He was married and had a daughter and a nephew (* around 1540) whom he adopted . After the Reformation , he became Lutheran in the 1520s .

When on May 10, 1531 the previous commander of the Commandery of the Teutonic Order in Bremen, which had been in existence since 1230, and four of his servants were murdered and the commandery looted, von Dumstorp succeeded in this office from 1532. In 1563 the Commandery was pledged to Bremen and briefly sold to the Commander of Daugavpils . In 1564 Bremen acquired the commandery and the 31 farms belonging to it. Von Dumstorp, the last Commander, lived in the Commandery and managed the property until his death in 1583. He was probably buried in the Bremen Cathedral .
