Franz Seraphim Benedikt Constanz Johann Nepomuk von und zu Zwerger (born December 10, 1792 in Waldkirch , † June 18, 1856 in Ravensburg ) was a German politician ( center ). From 1821 to 1856 he was the city ​​councilor of Ravensburg and from 1831 to 1844 a member of the Württemberg state parliament .

Franz von Zwerger was born in Waldkirch im Breisgau, then in Upper Austria, as the second oldest of five children. His father Dr. iur. Johann Anton von Zwerger (also dwarfs ; 1744–1813) was imperial-royal mayor and later senior bailiff. His mother Maria Alexia was the daughter of the Schwyzer Landammann Franz Michael Xaver Reichmuth.

After the father's retirement, the family moved from Tettnang to Ravensburg in 1811.

Life

Franz von Zwerger studied at the University of Tübingen and entered the civil service. He was an intern at the Oberamt Ravensburg and took his service exam at the Württemberg Ministry of the Interior on December 15 and 16, 1817 . As a lawyer with administrative experience, he was in great demand in Ravensburg and in 1820 became administrator of the municipal school authorities. On March 2, 1820, he was also elected as a city councilor to the building and fire committee. In 1820 he won the election to Ravensburger Stadtschultheiß (Lord Mayor). The long term of office of the versatile and liberal Catholic was marked by numerous reforms in administration, trade and commerce.

From 1831 to 1844 he represented the Oberamt Ravensburg and in 1848/49 the Oberamt Neckarsulm in the Württemberg state parliament in Stuttgart.

Together with the manufacturer Deffner, he also ran the largest cotton spinning mill, Zwerger, Deffner & Weiss, in Ravensburg.
