Fred Herzog (born September 21, 1930 in Stuttgart-Cannstatt ; † September 9, 2019 ) was a Canadian photographer .

Live and act

Herzog grew up in Stuttgart. After the death of both parents, he moved to Canada in 1952, where he first lived in Toronto and Montreal , and from 1953 in Vancouver .

He has been enthusiastic about photography since his youth and has dedicated himself to it professionally from the beginning of his time in Canada. Herzog worked as a professional photographer at the University of British Columbia in the field of medical engineering.

In his artistic work the interest in "normal" situations and scenes predominated. Herzog portrayed everyday scenes and urban environments as an expression of an unspectacular reality. Because of his early use of color photography, which was still unusual in the 1950s, he is regarded as their “pioneer”.
