Josef Brandner

Josef Brandner (born July 9, 1932 in Heining near Laufen (Salzach) , † October 15, 2010 in Munich ) was a German Catholic priest and author.

Life

Growing up as the son of a post office clerk, he attended the St. Michael seminar in Traunstein . After graduating from high school in 1951, he studied philosophy and theology at the then Philosophical-Theological University of Freising and in the seminary of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising , which was also in Freising at the time. He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1957 by Cardinal Joseph Wendel in the Cathedral of St. Maria and St. Korbinian in Freising .

He then worked as a chaplain in St. Michael Peiting , then until 1967 as prefect at the Traunstein study seminar, then until 1973 Brandner was student chaplain at the former University of Education in Munich- Pasing . Since 1975 he took on the part of the diocesan commissioner for the Catholic Biblical Works in Stuttgart.

From 1973 to 1992 he worked for the personnel department ( Pastoral Services Department ) of the Archbishop's Ordinariate in Munich as head of training for priests and pastoral officers .

From 1992 until the beginning of his retirement in 2003 he was head of the pastoral care department and was pastoral minister in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising. He was the first in the archdiocese to perform this task full-time - under various names. Even in retirement he continued to be involved in pastoral care and spiritual guidance.

In several study projects he worked with the Viennese sociologist of religion Paul M. Zulehner , among others .

Josef Brandner died on October 15, 2010 in Munich and was buried on October 20 by Auxiliary Bishop Bernhard Haßlberger and Cathedral Dean Lorenz Wolf at the Munich Forest Cemetery. The Requiem beforehand was celebrated by the Abbot of the Abbey of St. Boniface (Munich) , P. Johannes Eckert OSB .
