Fred Kaan

Frederik "Fred" Herman Kaan (born July 27, 1929 in Haarlem , † October 4, 2009 in Penrith , Cumbria ) was a Dutch pastor and hymn book author.

Kaan grew up in Utrecht and developed a Christian-pacifist attitude towards the end of the Second World War . Since 1955 he has served as a pastor in various Reformed parishes in Great Britain , including Barry, Wales , Plymouth and Swindon . He was one of the collaborators on the ecumenical hymn book "Cantate Domino" (1974). From 1968 to 1978 he was general secretary of the World Federation of Reformed Churches in Geneva .

He was the lyricist of numerous English-language hymns, some of which were also translated into other languages, including " Let us talents and togues employ ", which is known under the German text " Kommt mit Gaben und Lobgesang " ( EG  229).

Fred Kaan was a member of the Christian Peace Conference .
