Fred Maher

Fred Maher (* around 1962 in Manhattan ) is an American drummer and music producer .

Life

Together with keyboardist Michael Beinhorn and bassist Bill Laswell , he founded the Zu Band in 1978 , which was renamed Material a year later . The band's style was a fusion of jazz , funk , punk, hip-hop and world music . In 1979 the debut EP Temporary Music was released , and in 1981 the debut album of the same name.

He also formed with Fred Frith and Laswell Massacre (1978 to 1981). He then belonged to Scritti Politti from 1984 to 1988 . He also produced the album Bear Witness (1989) by I'm Talking as well as Lou Reed's album New York (1989), with which he also performed live ( A Night With Lou Reed ). He also produced Matthew Sweets album Girlfriend (1991) and various Information Society albums , whose album of the same name achieved gold status in 1988 . He also belonged to Daevid Allen's New York Gong and played with Robert Quine .

In the 1990s Maher worked as a studio musician and was involved in productions by Lloyd Cole . He also produced Luna and worked with producer Ron Baldwin .
