Fred Otto

Fred Otto (born December 4, 1883 in Rabenau (Saxony) ; † September 22, 1944 in Chemnitz ; full name: Martin Alfred Otto ) was a German architect and construction clerk . In the 1920s he shaped the cityscape of Chemnitz as a town planning officer.

Life

Fred Otto learned the mason trade and studied architecture at the Technical University of Dresden , where he was influenced by Heinrich Tessenow and Fritz Schumacher . Then he worked for the state building administration in Dresden before serving as an officer in World War I. He then became a building expert for the Rochlitz authorities and, on May 1, 1920 , he was chief construction commissioner and official building officer in Chemnitz. On April 1, 1925, he succeeded Richard Möbius as the town planner in Chemnitz.
