Frederick "Fred" Talbot (born August 7, 1885 in Golborne , † 1959 ) was an English football player .

Career

Talbot played with Billy Hibbert in a Lads' Club in Golborne and later also for the local men's team. He then played for Newton-le-Willows in the Second Division of the Lancashire Combination , before joining Bury in the Football League First Division in February 1907 . By this time he is said to have scored over 20 goals this season for Newton-le-Willows. The attacker, who was only 161 cm tall, had the reputation of scoring goals with “unsurpassable ease” and, on his first appearance for the reserve team against Colne, ensured an increased number of spectators. The fact that his youthful teammate Hibbert was now one of Bury's top performers as a center forward should also have contributed to this.

At the end of the season, after showing good form in the reserve team, he came under manager Archie Montgomery in the home games against Blackburn Rovers (final score 0-0) and FC Birmingham (1-0) to his first two first division appearances. In the following season 1907/08 was the position of the right half-striker's first of Harry Tufnell and later by Bob Currie busy, Talbot came during the season until the end of January 1908 two compulsory stakes, but both the league match against The Wednesday and the second-round game in the FA Cup against the Wolverhampton Wanderers ended in a 2-0 defeat. Following the defeat in the cup, the Athletic News noted about him: "Talbot can play football and it is a pity that he is not more blessed in terms of stature."

Towards the end of the season he was still involved in games for the Manchester Senior Cup , scored in the 5-1 semi-final win against Oldham Athletic and was also in the storm row in the 0-1 final defeat against Manchester United . After another season exclusively in the reserve team, his commitment by Ashton Town was announced in late May 1909 , a club that also played in the Second Division of the Lancashire Combination. The last time his name is found in April 1910, in the game against Lancaster he first scored one goal before he broke his leg.
