Fred Williams (basketball player)

Fred Williams (born April 14, 1973 in Biloxi ) is a retired American basketball player .

Life

Williams played from 1991 to 1995 in his home country at the University of Southern Mississippi  in the NCAA . In 106 missions for the university team, the two-meter-tall wing and inside player achieved an average of 4.8 points and 3.2 rebounds per encounter. In his last season he got 6.8 points per game. Williams signed his first contract as a professional basketball player in 1995 with the club Þór from the Icelandic city of Akureyri . He played there until 1997 and between the two seasons in Iceland with the Atlanta Trojans team in the US division USBL. In Iceland, he led the league's basket hunter list with 28.5 points per encounter.

In the 1997/98 season Williams was under contract with the Finnish first division club LaNMKY in Lahti and brought it there in 34 games to 16.6 points and 8.8 rebounds per use. In 1998 he moved to TV 1860 Lich in Germany and rose with the team in the 1998/99 season from the 2nd basketball league to the basketball league  . He remained loyal to Mittelhessen in the first division and was there in the 1999/2000 season as before in the lower division a Licher top performer (15.5 points, 7.2 rebounds / game), but missed relegation with the TV.

During the summer break of 2000, Williams moved to TSK Bamberg within the Bundesliga and played there until 2002. In both seasons, he posted an average of double-digit points (14.9 points / game in the 2000/01 season and 13.8 points / game in the season 2001/02). The American then remained without a club for several months before he was signed by the second division SSV Ratiopharm Ulm in February 2003 and thus played again in Germany until the end of the 2002/03 game year.

In the run-up to the 2003/04 season, Williams moved to Mabetex Pristina in Kosovo . In the preparation for the 2005/06 season, the American took part in the practice operation of the Central German BC , but was not equipped with a contract.

After the end of his playing days, Williams worked as a physical education teacher at Gautier High School in the US state of Mississippi and coached the girls' basketball team at the school from 2007 to 2017.
