Fredericksburg in the Texas Hill Country AVA (recognized since December 22, 1988) is a wine-growing region in the US state of Texas . The area is located in the Texas Hill Country in the immediate vicinity of Fredericksburg in Gillespie County . German immigrant influence is omnipresent within the Texas Hill Country. Due to the warm climate, however, the immigrants could not set any accents in viticulture, as the German grape varieties are not suitable for the local climatic conditions. In Texas, grape varieties from southern France , Spain and Italy are mainly used. The area is about 320 km from the Gulf of Mexico , so that the influence of the warm and humid sea breezes on the climate is only felt to a small extent.

So far, only 2 wineries have bottled wines under the name of the appellation: Fredericksburg Winery and McReynolds Wines.
