Texas Hill Country AVA (recognized November 29, 1991) is a wine-growing region in the US state of Texas . The area is located in the Texas Hill Country north of the city of San Antonio and west of Austin .

This wine-growing area is the second largest American Viticultural Area , and theoretically extends over 36,400 km². The actual planted area under vines is, however, a low 300 hectares. German immigrant influence is omnipresent within the Texas Hill Country. Due to the warm climate, however, the immigrants could not set any accents in viticulture, as the German grape varieties are not suitable for the local climatic conditions. In Texas are mainly grape varieties from southern France , Spain and Italy in use.
