Fredi Lüscher

Fredi Lüscher (born December 1, 1943 in Arth am See ; † May 30, 2006 ) was a Swiss jazz pianist and publicist.

Live and act

Lüscher learned the piano as an autodidact . Originally working as a language teacher in schools, he has been a professional musician since 1985. In addition to improvising, he was particularly interested in interpreting the compositions of Duke Ellington , Thelonious Monk and Carla Bley . He worked as a soloist, in a duo with Urs Voerkel , with Markus Eichenberger and with Nat Su , but also in trio with Cristin Wildbolz and Margrit Rieben as well as with Marco Käppeli and Daniel Studer . He also played in the bands of Christoph Gallio and Christian Gilardi. He has toured internationally and played at festivals in Switzerland, Germany, France and Argentina. He also edited the Bulletin of the Swiss Music Syndicate from 1998 to 2000 and, from 2002, carried out a research project at the Lucerne School of Music . He also worked as a columnist for Die Wochenzeitung and as a designer of radio programs. He died of a heart attack .
