The Freedom of the Press Foundation ( FPF , German  Foundation for the Freedom of the Press ) is a non-profit foundation to strengthen the freedom of the press and freedom of expression in the sense of an enlightened (counter-) public towards the mass media and directed or transfigured political education .

Purpose and activity

The goal of all activities is:

"[...] promote and fund aggressive, public-interest journalism focused on exposing mismanagement, corruption, and law-breaking in government."

"To aggressively strengthen and finance journalism in the public interest to expose mismanagement, corruption or breaking the law in the government."

- FPF

Funds collected through crowdfunding are used to support organizations that are selected by the members of the foundation on the basis of defined criteria, as transparent and non-profit media are increasingly playing a critical role in our society .

The FPF uses and supports SecureDrop for secure communication .

Supported organizations and campaigns

Criteria for engagement are FPFs for third parties

  1. Promote independent and critical journalism in the past
  2. Representation of the public interest
  3. The organization or individuals repression exposed
