The TubeBox is a free download manager with an integrated conversion program , developed by Freetec Ltd. The program is for search, view and download videos and music on the Internet - video platforms such as YouTube , Dailymotion , Vimeo or Clipfish suitable. The content can be downloaded directly in the formats MP3 , MP4 , 3gp , Xvid , WMV or MPEG-4 and also converted back and forth between the different formats.

history

The TubeBox was developed in 2007 as part of a student project by the programmer Jens Lorek. The functions of the software were constantly expanded , inspired by user feedback . From 2011, the program was further developed, distributed and marketed under the Freemium brand. In a judgment of July 26, 2012, the Munich Regional Court banned the production, distribution and possession of the software, on the grounds that it could record or record music from streaming platforms such as MyVideo, bypassing technical copy protection mechanisms, in order to transfer it to the computer or download another storage medium. In August 2012, Freemium GmbH decided to resell the software to the Egyptian company Freetec Ltd in August 2012.

Skills

With TubeBox, all contents of the video portals Clipfish, Dailymotion, Metacafe, RCMovie, YouTube, Vimeo and the online media libraries of the TV stations Pro7 and Kabel1 can be searched and viewed without using the web browser . The videos found can also be downloaded and converted into MP3, MP4, 3gp, Xvid, WMV or MPEG-4 video formats.

With the integrated container function, it is possible to download and convert several related videos with just one click. A container contains links to multiple videos, so you don't have to find each link individually. Users can share individually created containers with other users via a forum integrated into the graphical user interface .

Supported Platforms

TubeBox is available for the Microsoft Windows operating system from version Windows 2000 . The manufacturer specifies an Intel Pentium 1, 512 MB RAM and 50 MB hard disk space as recommended system requirements . In addition, the installed .NET Framework from 3.5 and an Internet connection are required for the downloads.

Spread and awards

The actual spread of download software is difficult to measure. The manufacturer speaks of a download number of around 10 million pieces on its product website . The software has been downloaded 1.3 million times on the German download portal CHIP Online , 0.4 million times on the Softonic portal and around 0.15 million times on Computerbild.de . The manufacturer does not provide any information about the number of downloads from the official product page.
