The rabbit castle in Freesenort

Freesenort is a place on the island of Ummanz and belongs to the municipality of the same name . It consists of four properties, all four of the town's residential buildings are listed buildings .

Freesenort is located in the extreme southwest of the island of Ummanz, about two kilometers from Wusse and about four kilometers from Waase , the main town on the island. The place is located in the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park , on a part of the West Rügen Bodden waters called Die Breite . Two kilometers from Freesenort is the protected island of Heuwiese , a bird sanctuary.

The place was first mentioned in 1319 under the name Vreesenort . In the 16th and 17th centuries farms are mentioned in the village. The Hasenburg probably dates back to the 17th century in the “sugar loaf style” with a low roof. It is the oldest of the houses in the village and probably one of the oldest houses in the area of the island of Rügen. The other three houses in the village are also listed.

The writer Herbert Nachbar lived temporarily in Freesenort in the 1950s.
