Freiberg brewery
The Freiberger Brauhaus is a brewery in Freiberg , Saxony .
history
On August 11, 1850, the "Commun-Brauhof zu Freiberg" was opened by the Freiberg Brewery Cooperative. In 1863 the Freiberg brewery was the first brewery in Saxony to brew a Pilsner- style beer under the name “Freiberger Böhmisch”. In 1898 it was renamed “Bürgerliche Brauhaus Freiberg AG”, one of the first public limited companies in Germany.
After the Second World War, Freiberg was in the Soviet occupation zone , later the GDR . The brewery lost its legal status as a stock corporation in 1946 ; In 1948 it became a state-owned company (the owners were expropriated ) and later incorporated into the "VEB Getränkekombinat Karl-Marx-Stadt".
After the end of the GDR, the company was taken over by Eichbaum-Brauereien AG (Mannheim) and in 2000 it was incorporated into Actris AG of SAP founder Dietmar Hopp . During this time, new facilities were built on the northern outskirts, and the old company premises on the ring road were given up, only the brewery restaurant remained.
In May 2006 the company was sold retroactively to January 1, 2006 to the Radeberger Group , which at that time already owned three Saxon breweries. In 2006 Freiberger produced more than a million hectoliters in one year for the first time.
