The Freiberger Lebensmittel GmbH & Co. KG production & sales is a German company and a global manufacturer of refrigerated and frozen products headquartered in Berlin .
The company's center of gravity lies in the production of private label products in the segment frozen and chilled pizza , as well as ready-made dishes , ( pasta , baguettes ). With around 3,500 employees worldwide and plants in Berlin, Muggensturm , Osterweddingen , Burg and Oberhofen ( Austria ), Westhoughton (Great Britain) and five in the United States , Freiberger claims that it is the world's largest provider of frozen pizza in the private label segment.
history
The company emerged in 1976 from the pizza mail order bakery with 20 employees, which Ernst Freiberger , the son of an ice cream manufacturer (Efa-Eiskrem), had founded. In 1986, what was then Europe's largest pizza factory was opened in Berlin-Reinickendorf. In 1995 the “Alberto” brand was introduced.
In 1991 Freiberger took over the Strickler company (baguette production) in Muggensturm, 2000 PrimAs in Oberhofen, 2003 Stateside Foods Ltd. in Westhoughton (Great Britain), in 2010 the former factory of Schwan Foods in Osterweddingen near Magdeburg and 2017 Hasa GmbH in Burg near Magdeburg. In addition, Richelieu Foods Inc. in the USA was acquired in December 2017.
Freiberger has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of Südzucker AG since 1998 , which has held a 25.1% stake since 1989.
Production, locations
The Freiberger Lebensmittel GmbH & Co. Produktions- und Vertriebs KG, a 100% subsidiary of Südzucker AG, includes:
- Sales offices in Berlin (Germany), Spalding (Great Britain), Lyon (France) and Warsaw (Poland)
- Production sites in Berlin, Osterweddingen and Muggensturm (Germany) as well as the subsidiaries HASA GmbH in Burg near Magdeburg (Germany) and Prim As Tiefkühlprodukte GmbH in Oberhofen (Austria)
- Stateside Foods Ltd. , Westhoughton (Great Britain) only produces chilled pizzas for the English market.
- Richelieu Foods Inc. , produces pizzas, sauces and dressings in the USA at its locations in Wheeling (IL), Elk Grove Village (IL), Beaver Dam (WI), Grundy Center (IA), Washington Court House (OH). The HQ is in Braintree (MA)
Brands
Own brands are "Alberto" and "erno's". In addition, Freiberger products are sold worldwide under various private labels.
