The free game European championship in 1955 was the 6th tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from 19 to 22 May 1955 in Saarbrücken , in the autonomous Saarland. It was the first free-game European championship in Saarland.

history

A European championship of records took place in Saarland. First and foremost Siegfried Spielmann from Düsseldorf . He set a new record in the GD with 102.42 , which would have been even better if a game had not been deleted from the preliminary round. Then it would even be 105.25. He improved the new, extended record in the top series to 1984 . But it wasn't enough to win, as he lost games against Scholte and Vervest and had drawn against Pinto. Defending champion Joseph Vervest did better . He only lost to his compatriot Clement van Hassel . The 22-year-old Dutch champion Henk Scholte made a very strong impression . He lost in the final only against the defending champion and against Jacques Grivaud in one shot and surprisingly lost in the preliminary round against the Egyptian Mustafa Diab. Former world champion August Tiedtke , who started for Saarland, came in seventh.

mode

The game was played in two preliminary round groups with five players "everyone against everyone" up to 500 points. The top four in each group made it to the finals. Results of the eliminated players were not included in the final round and did not count towards the final ranking. Extended series were counted.
