The State Association of Free Voters Hesse ( short name : Free Voters , proper spelling: FREIE WÄHLER Hessen or FREE VOTERS) is the Hessian state association of the Federal Association of Free Voters . There are close personal ties to the FWG Hessen , from whose ranks the association was founded.

profile

The Free Voters have drawn up guidelines for participation in the Hessian state elections in 2008. In 2013 these were revised.

Overall, the Free Voters want to streamline the administrative apparatus by abolishing the regional councils. The financial resources thus freed up are to be used, among other things, for the promotion of renewable energies, the phase-out of nuclear energy, security (hiring more police officers to relieve the burden) and debt reduction. Furthermore, the party is calling for the Hessian state parliament to be downsized.

After the success of the referendum by the Bavarian Free Voters against the road expansion contributions at the beginning of 2018, Free Voters in Hesse are also trying to petition the so-called "Strabs".

During the Hessentag 2018 in Korbach, the Free Voters of Hesse caused media coverage by protesting against the unequal treatment of political parties at the state festival. The main point of criticism was the preference given to the parliamentary groups, who can present themselves free of charge, while other parties have to pay stand rental.

history

The voter group FW Free Voters Hessen was founded out of the FWG Hessen and entered the state elections in Hessen for the first time in 2008 . The top candidates were Thomas Braun from Bad Soden, Laura Macho from Karben and Bernd Häfner from Kassel. The candidacy at the state level was controversial within the free voters. At the State Delegate Day of the FWG Hessen on November 4, 2006, 61 percent of the delegates voted for the candidacy. At the meeting of the Hessian electoral committee, 30 candidates from the Free Voters were struck off the list because they did not meet the formal requirements for candidacy or had already withdrawn their candidacy. Nevertheless, with 139 candidates, the Free Voters had one of the most extensive list proposals for election. The electoral group reached 0.9% nationwide. In the new election in 2009 , she improved her result with top candidate Walter Öhlenschläger to 1.6%.

In 2012, at a general meeting in Wiesbaden, it joined the Germany-wide party, the Federal Association of Free Voters, and was renamed as a result. This should go hand in hand with a commitment at federal and European level. On September 22, 2013, the regional association took part in the state and federal elections . The top candidate for the state parliament was again Walter Öhlenschläger from Groß-Rohrheim. Engin Eroglu from Schwalmstadt ran for the Bundestag in first place . In the federal election a result of 0.8% was achieved, the result of the state election in 2013 was 1.2%.

For the 2017 federal election , the Free Voters of Hesse ran again with Engin Eroglu as the top candidate. The party was able to achieve a share of the vote of 0.9%. For the Hessian state election on October 28, 2018 , the Free Voters ran with a dual leadership consisting of Engin Eroglu and Laura Schulz. With 3.0% of the vote, the state association achieved its best result so far in the state elections. In the European elections in 2019 , state chairman Engin Eroglu ran for second place on the European list of free voters and moved into the European Parliament after the election .
