The State Association of Free Voters Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ( short name : Free Voters MV , spelling: FREIE WÄHLER MV) is a state association of the Federal Association of Free Voters . There are close personal connections to the regional association of free voters MV in the federal association of free voters .

Parliamentary representation

From May 2017 to November 2018, Arne Gericke, a member of the European Parliament, was a member of the regional association.

On November 13, 2018 declared three of the four Members of Parliament of the citizens of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern , a spin-off of the AFD that they will join the national association FDP. Together with the non-party Ralf Borschke , they formed the Free Voters / Citizens parliamentary group for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The Citizens for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania party disbanded on December 9, 2018. At the end of September 2019, the members of the state parliament resigned from the party after disputes with the state chairman Gustav Graf von Westarp, the parliamentary group dissolved. Matthias Manthei and Bernhard Wildt joined the CDU parliamentary group, Borschke returned to the AfD and Christel Weißig became non-attached.

Road development contributions

The free voters started a popular initiative to abolish road construction contributions . About 44,000 signatures were collected within a few weeks. As a result, the state government decided on November 21, 2018 that the road expansion contributions should be abolished by 2020 at the latest.
