Arne Gericke

Arne Gericke (born November 19, 1964 in Hamburg ) is a freelance speaker and politician from Ticino near Rostock . He was a member of the European Parliament from 2014 to 2019 . From 2006 to 2010 and again from November 20, 2016 until he left the party, which was publicly announced on May 9, 2017, he was federal chairman of the German Family Party . After he temporarily the outdoors voters had heard, he is now a member of the alliance C . At the European level he is a member of the European Christian Political Movement (ECPM). In the European Parliament he was a member of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group.

Life

Gericke was born in Hamburg, but grew up in Papua New Guinea . In 1979 he returned to Germany and completed vocational training as a wholesale and foreign trade clerk . In the early 1990s he built up a beverage trading company in the Czech Republic . In 1994 he became home manager of a senior center in Gnoien .

Gericke is married and has four children of her own and three foster children. In order to take better care of the children, he gave up his job as a home manager in 2004 and started his own business as a funeral orator and pastor . In 2012 he received from the bakery company Mestemacher the Mestemacher price spike Father of the Year .

From 2005 to 2014

Arne Gericke joined Germany's Family Party in 2005 . In 2006 a state association of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was founded , of which Gericke was chairman until 2014. In the state election in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in September 2006 , Arne Gericke was the top candidate for the family party. In November 2006 he was elected to succeed Franz-Josef Breyer as its federal chairman and was confirmed in this office in 2008. In the European elections in 2009 he was number 1 on the nationwide list. At the federal convention of the Family Party on November 13, 2010, he no longer ran for party leadership. Erhard Lahni became his successor . In the state elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 2011 he was again the top candidate of his party and failed with his candidacy in the state constituency of Rostock I with 3.8% of the first votes. 2014-2019: MEP

In the 2014 European elections in Germany , Arne Gericke was again the top candidate of the Family Party in Germany and was elected a member of the European Parliament via the party's federal list. There he was a member of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group, the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs , the delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (since July 14, 2014), the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality (since January 19, 2017, previously he was deputy) and the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (since February 14, 2017). He was also an alternate member of the delegation for relations with Australia and New Zealand (since November 19, 2014). From January 19, 2017 to February 13, 2017 inclusive, he was a member of the Subcommittee on Human Rights (previously he was Deputy), and from September 15 to November 18, 2014 of the Delegation for Relations with the Countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations ( ASEAN). In his parliamentary group, he also held the offices of social and medium-sized business expert, municipal expert and dialogue partner for churches and church associations. Since then, Gericke has also brought some initiatives along the way, such as B. “Breastfeeding Star”, which is intended to show breastfeeding mothers and their babies across Europe the way to “breastfeeding-friendly places”. Gericke is president of the working group Demography, Family and Intergenerational Dialogue as well as founder and chairman of the inter-institutional network "European Friends of Family".

In March 2016, Gericke applied to the board of directors of the EKR faction, to which he belonged, to expel the two AfD MPs, Marcus Pretzell and Beatrix von Storch , which then took place in April. At the federal party conference in November 2016, Arne Gericke was elected as the new federal chairman and took over the office from Roland Körner , who was no longer running.

On May 9, 2017, Arne Gericke publicly announced that he would be leaving the German Family Party and joining the Free Voters party with immediate effect . He announced that he was leaving the party by telephone the weekend before.

He has been a member of Bündnis C since autumn 2018 . With this party, he ran as the top candidate for the 2019 European elections , but with 0.2% of the vote he missed re-entry into parliament.
