The European Christian Political Movement ( European Christian Political Movement , shortly ECPM ) is a European political party , which is composed of member parties from different European countries who see themselves as Christian. It is currently represented by four MEPs in the European Parliament .

The basis for the ECPM was laid at the conference “For a Christian Europe” in Lakitelek, Hungary in November 2002. On September 15, 2005, the organization was officially established under Dutch law. It consists of 15 mostly small parties from 15 countries, including non-EU countries (e.g. Switzerland, Ukraine and Armenia). Since February 2010 it has been recognized as a political party at European level . The party's headquarters are in Amersfoort in the Netherlands .

The European Christian Political Youth Network is the youth organization of the ECPM. The party- affiliated foundation of the ECPM bears the name Sallux , until the end of 2016 Christian Political Foundation for Europe .

The Dutch member party ChristenUnie has been represented in the European Parliament since 2004 . From 2004 to 2009 Hans Blokland represented the party and was a member of the board of the European-critical group Independence and Democracy (I / D). Since 2009 the CU has been represented by Peter van Dalen , who sits in the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group. By joining the Staatkundig Gereformeerde Partij in 2009, the ECPM was also represented by Bas Belder , who was a member of the Europe of Freedom and Democracy (EFD) group.

After the 2014 European elections , more politicians joined the ECPM, so that it had six MPs. All belonged to the ECR group. At the end of the electoral term, the ECPM was again represented in the European Parliament with six members:

The AfD MP Beatrix von Storch was a member of the ECPM from 2014 to 2016. She was expelled from the party after statements about the use of firearms against women and children at the borders.

In the 2019 European elections , only CU and SGP were able to win a total of two mandates on a joint list. After the Dutch right-wing populist party FvD was accepted into the FCR , the CU MP left the parliamentary group and switched to the parliamentary group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) (EPP). The new MP of the German Family Party, Helmut Geuking , also EKR parliamentary group, joined the ECPM. His party decided to join the ECPM in September 2019. In May 2020, the Romanian MP, Cristian Terheș , who was elected for the Social Democrats, declared his accession to the National Christian Democratic Peasant Party (PNȚ-CD), the ECR Group and the ECPM. There are currently four ECPM members represented in the European Parliament:

Board

In January 2005 the board of the ECPM was elected for the first time. From January 2005 to June 2013, Peeter Võsu (Estonia) was President of the Association. From June 2013, Peter Östman (Finland) was President. Östman is a member of the Christian Democrats (Kristillisdemokraatit, KD) in the Finnish Parliament. However, the KD is not a member of the ECPM.

After Östman's withdrawal at the end of 2016, Slovak Branislav Škripek took over the chairmanship on an interim basis and was also elected in May 2017. Vice-president is the Georgian George Rukhadze . The other board members are Stieneke van der Graaf , Ladislav Ilčić , Valeriu Ghileţchi , Filip Łajszczak and Jacques Bazen .
