Matthias Manthei (born May 12, 1972 in Anklam ) is a German lawyer , judge and politician. In the state elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 2016 , he won the direct mandate of the constituency 29 Vorpommern-Greifswald II as a candidate of the AfD . From the beginning of 2018 he was a member of the state parliament of the parliamentary group of citizens for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (BMV), which he co-founded , later "Free Voters / BMV", and since October 2019 he has been part of the CDU parliamentary group.

Career and occupation

Matthias Manthei was born in Anklam. In 1989 he helped to build the Junge Union there . Matthias Manthei studied law at the Universities of Münster and Liverpool and was awarded a Dr. jur. PhD. He published his dissertation in 1999 under the title The Divorce Law Reform of 1976 in the Spiegel der Presse. From November 2000 he was a judge on probation in the Higher Regional Court -Bezirk Rostock operates. From December 2003 to September 2016 he was a judge at the Greifswald District Court . He lives in Wackerow .

In May 2014 Manthei was elected to the district council of Vorpommern-Greifswald . At the party congress in November 2014, he became state chairman of the AfD together with Leif-Erik Holm . He was a candidate for the AFD for the state election district Vorpommern-Greifswald II in the parliament elected. Until September 25, 2017, he was the parliamentary managing director of the AfD state parliamentary group in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Dissatisfied with the AfD's right-wing course, he first left their parliamentary group, then the party: On September 25, 2017, together with AfD parliamentarians Ralf Borschke , Christel Weißig and Bernhard Wildt, he founded the "Citizens for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (BMV)" group . On October 8, 2017, Manthei stated in a six-page letter that he would leave the AfD. On January 20, 2018, the Citizens for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania party was founded in Hanshagen .

Manthei accused the AfD of believing that many of its members “have now found a platform in the AfD on which they can realize their radical views.
